ChatGPT Integration with InsideSpin

As a validation of AI-augmented article writing, InsideSpin has integrated ChatGPT to help flesh out unfinished articles at the moment they are requested. If you have been a past InsideSpin user, you may have noticed not all articles are fully fleshed out. While every article has a summary, only about half are fleshed out. Decisions about what to finish has been based on user interest over the years. With this POC, ChatGPT will use the InsideSpin article summary as the basis of the prompt, and return an expanded article adding insight from its underlying model. The instances are being stored for later analysis to choose one that best represents the intent of InsideSpin which the author can work with to finalize. This is a trial of an AI-augmented approach. AI for Product Teams

Over the last 30 years, the landscape of coding and software engineering has transformed dramatically. The number of coders has surged to meet the increasing professional demands of the technology sector. In the early 1990s, the number of professional software engineers in the United States was below one million. Fast forward to 2025, and this figure is projected to exceed 30 million. This statistic does not even account for the millions of individuals engaging with web development tools—such as WordPress, HubSpot, Spotify, GoDaddy, and AWS—who manage their own coding needs with little formal training, relying on these platforms to generate the necessary templated code.

The Rise of AI Coding Tools

For anyone who has utilized AI coding tools like GitHub's CoPilot, it becomes evident that these AI systems excel at generating code. AI coding tools are fundamentally semantic language engines designed to parse and generate structured coding languages. Coding languages are inherently intended to be semantically unambiguous to ensure that computers can execute them correctly. The sophistication embedded in AI systems, enabling them to understand and generate natural languages like English, is often unnecessary for the straightforward task of coding. However, these tools are not without their shortcomings; they still face the "garbage-in/garbage-out" risks, much like AI chatbots such as ChatGPT. This emphasizes the critical need for AI-augmented skills among human operators to derive value from these tools and potentially safeguard jobs in the industry.

The Role of Product Managers

For Product Managers, the essence of their role lies in synthesizing various streams of requirements to produce outputs that engineering teams can implement and that businesses can take to market to generate revenue. The more unambiguous and consistent the outputs provided by a Product team, the more effectively coders and sales teams can address the identified needs. However, as we increasingly rely on AI for these tasks, there is a general concern about the homogenization of thought and approach—similar to the effects seen in the finance sector with the advent of spreadsheets. Nonetheless, the benefits of AI for Product teams include improved alignment, consistency, and completeness of analysis derived from generated artifacts over time.

Transforming the Roles of Coders and Product Managers

Coders and Product Managers are among the roles most poised for transformation through the comprehensive adoption of AI technologies. As AI continues to evolve, the nature of these jobs will inevitably change. It is crucial for professionals in these fields to explore how they can migrate their talents to align with the capabilities that AI drives. This evolution requires an understanding of both the potential benefits and the challenges that come with embracing AI in the workplace.

Embracing Change

The first step for professionals is to embrace the change that AI brings. Transitioning to AI-augmented roles involves not just an understanding of the technology but also a willingness to adapt and learn. Coders will need to rethink their traditional approaches to software development, incorporating AI tools into their workflow to enhance productivity and reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks. This shift can lead to more innovation and creativity, as engineers are freed from mundane coding tasks to focus on solving complex problems and designing better systems.

Enhancing Product Development

For Product Managers, AI provides an opportunity to refine the product development process. Utilizing AI tools can help streamline the synthesis of requirements, allowing for more accurate forecasting and prioritization of features. By leveraging AI-generated insights, Product Managers can better understand market trends and customer needs, leading to more informed decision-making. This data-driven approach enhances the overall effectiveness of product strategies, ensuring that they remain relevant in a rapidly changing market.

Addressing the Skills Gap

As the technology landscape continues to evolve, there will be a growing skills gap that needs addressing. Professionals in the tech space must invest in upskilling and reskilling to remain relevant. Organizations should facilitate this learning process by offering training programs focused on AI technologies, data analysis, and other relevant skills. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptation, companies can ensure their teams are well-equipped to thrive in an AI-enhanced environment.

Conclusion

The rise of AI in technology presents both opportunities and challenges for Product Teams and coders alike. As the industry evolves, professionals must be proactive in adapting to these changes. By embracing AI tools and enhancing their skill sets, they can navigate the transformation effectively. The ultimate goal for Product Managers and coders is to leverage AI to improve efficiency, boost innovation, and deliver exceptional value to their organizations and customers.
