ChatGPT Integration with InsideSpin

As a validation of AI-augmented article writing, InsideSpin has integrated ChatGPT to help flesh out unfinished articles at the moment they are requested. If you have been a past InsideSpin user, you may have noticed not all articles are fully fleshed out. While every article has a summary, only about half are fleshed out. Decisions about what to finish has been based on user interest over the years. With this POC, ChatGPT will use the InsideSpin article summary as the basis of the prompt, and return an expanded article adding insight from its underlying model. The instances are being stored for later analysis to choose one that best represents the intent of InsideSpin which the author can work with to finalize. This is a trial of an AI-augmented approach. Email founder@insidespin.com to share your views on this or ask questions about the implementation.

Consulting Services

An opportunity for additional revenues -- not really. An opportunity to generate more product sales, for sure. Unless you are in the services business, consulting around your product family tends to be a necessary evil to secure key customers, especially when just starting out. Over time you should see an ecosystem of service partners develop that are more than happy to provide the consulting services for your product family -- let it happen. If it does not happen, you should question the size of your market. Few product companies successfully build large and meaningful service practices to go with it (of course, it may be something that your product needs and only you can do it, so it can happen). It's still a services business and it should generate revenue if you dabble in this area at all - nothing for free. Let's examine how to get started and some of the basic principles that should be set up to establish excellence in this area.

The Dual Nature of Consulting Services

In the technology sector, consulting services can be viewed through two lenses: as a revenue stream and as a necessary means to ensure customer satisfaction. While the former is often idealized, it is crucial to recognize that consulting may primarily exist to support product sales. Entrepreneurs must understand that engaging in consulting can be both beneficial and burdensome, especially when first launching their products.

Building a Service Ecosystem

As your business grows, the ideal scenario involves the development of a service ecosystem. This ecosystem comprises partners and affiliates who can offer consulting services, allowing you to focus on your core competencies. Here are some strategies to foster this ecosystem:

Evaluating Market Size

If your ecosystem does not develop as expected, it may indicate that your market is too small or not adequately defined. To evaluate your market size, consider:

Creating a Revenue-Generating Consulting Practice

For those who decide to build their consulting services in-house, it is essential to approach this with a clear strategy. Here are fundamental principles to establish a successful consulting practice:

Challenges in Consulting Services

While consulting services can be lucrative, they also come with inherent challenges, including:

Conclusion

Consulting services in the technology sector are often a necessary component for securing customer relationships and driving product sales. While establishing an in-house consulting practice can be challenging, creating a robust ecosystem of service partners can relieve some of this burden. Entrepreneurs should continuously evaluate their market size, refine their service offerings, and be prepared to face the inherent challenges of consulting. With careful planning and execution, consulting services can transition from a necessary evil to a valuable asset in your technology business.
