ChatGPT Integration with InsideSpin

As a validation of AI-augmented article writing, InsideSpin has integrated ChatGPT to help flesh out unfinished articles at the moment they are requested. If you have been a past InsideSpin user, you may have noticed not all articles are fully fleshed out. While every article has a summary, only about half are fleshed out. Decisions about what to finish has been based on user interest over the years. With this POC, ChatGPT will use the InsideSpin article summary as the basis of the prompt, and return an expanded article adding insight from its underlying model. The instances are being stored for later analysis to choose one that best represents the intent of InsideSpin which the author can work with to finalize. This is a trial of an AI-augmented approach. Email founder@insidespin.com to share your views on this or ask questions about the implementation.

Consulting Services

An opportunity for additional revenues -- not really. An opportunity to generate more product sales, for sure. Unless you are in the services business, consulting around your product family tends to be a necessary evil to secure key customers, especially when just starting out. Over time you should see an ecosystem of service partners develop that are more than happy to provide the consulting services for your product family -- let it happen. If it does not happen, you should question the size of your market. Few product companies successfully build large and meaningful service practices to go with it (of course, it may be something that your product needs and only you can do it, so it can happen). It's still a services business and it should generate revenue if you dabble in this area at all - nothing for free. Let's examine how to get started and some of the basic principles that should be set up to establish excellence in this area.

The Reality of Consulting in Technology

In the fast-paced world of technology, many entrepreneurs find themselves at a crossroads when deciding whether to offer consulting services. While the initial thought may be to view consulting as a lucrative revenue stream, the reality often paints a different picture. Consulting can be seen as a necessary extension of your product offerings, primarily aimed at ensuring customer satisfaction and retention.

Understanding the Necessity of Consulting

When launching a new technology product, consulting services may initially appear as a burden rather than an asset. Many entrepreneurs are compelled to provide consulting to address immediate customer needs and concerns. This is particularly true in the early stages when product features and functionalities may not be fully understood by the end-users.

Developing an Ecosystem of Service Partners

As the business matures, the goal should shift from providing consulting services directly to creating a network of service partners. This not only alleviates the burden from your internal team but also allows for a broader range of expertise and solutions to be offered to customers.

When cultivating this ecosystem, consider the following:

Measuring the Success of Your Consulting Efforts

To ensure that consulting services are beneficial rather than burdensome, it is essential to establish metrics for success. This may include:

Challenges in Offering Consulting Services

Despite the potential benefits, there are inherent challenges that come with offering consulting services:

Final Thoughts

Consulting services can be both a necessary evil and a potential opportunity. While they may not generate immediate revenue, they play a crucial role in securing customer loyalty and enhancing product sales. By developing a robust ecosystem of service partners and establishing clear metrics for success, technology entrepreneurs can navigate the challenges of consulting services effectively.

Ultimately, understanding when and how to engage in consulting could be the differentiating factor between success and stagnation in the technology industry.
