ChatGPT Integration with InsideSpin

As a validation of AI-augmented article writing, InsideSpin has integrated ChatGPT to help flesh out unfinished articles at the moment they are requested. If you have been a past InsideSpin user, you may have noticed not all articles are fully fleshed out. While every article has a summary, only about half are fleshed out. Decisions about what to finish has been based on user interest over the years. With this POC, ChatGPT will use the InsideSpin article summary as the basis of the prompt, and return an expanded article adding insight from its underlying model. The instances are being stored for later analysis to choose one that best represents the intent of InsideSpin which the author can work with to finalize. This is a trial of an AI-augmented approach. Email founder@insidespin.com to share your views on this or ask questions about the implementation.

Consulting Services

An opportunity for additional revenues -- not really. An opportunity to generate more product sales, for sure. Unless you are in the services business, consulting around your product family tends to be a necessary evil to secure key customers, especially when just starting out. Over time you should see an ecosystem of service partners develop that are more than happy to provide the consulting services for your product family -- let it happen. If it does not happen, you should question the size of your market.

Few product companies successfully build large and meaningful service practices to go with it (of course, it may be something that your product needs and only you can do it, so it can happen). It's still a services business and it should generate revenue if you dabble in this area at all - nothing for free. Let's examine how to get started and some of the basic principles that should be set up to establish excellence in this area.

The Nature of Consulting Services

Consulting services often play a crucial role in the technology sector, particularly for companies that are heavily product-focused. When launching a new product, the initial customer experience can be pivotal to long-term success. Consulting offers a way to bridge the gap between product capabilities and customer needs, ensuring a smoother transition into the client’s operational framework.

Understanding the Necessity

While consulting services can seem like a burden, they often serve as a critical function in establishing customer trust and usability. Here are some reasons why consulting becomes necessary:

Building a Service Ecosystem

As your business matures, the goal should be to cultivate a network of service partners who can handle the consulting aspects of your product. This allows your organization to focus on core competencies while ensuring customers receive the necessary support. Key steps in building this ecosystem include:

Evaluating Market Demand

If a service ecosystem does not develop organically, it may be time to reassess the market size for your product. Factors to consider include:

Establishing Consulting Excellence

If you decide to offer consulting services directly, establishing a strong framework is essential. Here are some principles to follow:

Revenue Considerations

While consulting services may seem like a drain on resources, they should ultimately be a revenue-generating activity. To ensure profitability, consider the following:

Conclusion

Consulting services can present significant challenges for technology entrepreneurs, but they also offer opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction and drive sales. By understanding the necessity of consulting, building a robust service ecosystem, and establishing principles of excellence, businesses can navigate the complexities of consulting and ultimately thrive in a competitive market.

The journey may be arduous, but with the right strategies in place, consulting can transform from a necessary evil into a valuable asset for growth.
