Re: Lead generation -- risk of too many leads

LoveGolf, What a great problem to have! If you have an opportunity to generate qualified leads and have the budget, don't wait, generate them now. After you've generated those leads you have 2 options: 1. Have sales agree to follow up with those leads and work with the head of sales to design a SPIF...

Re: Lead generation -- risk of too many leads

Many people will disagree with me and call it 1-dimensional in thinking but I believe leads in the end are what you're after. Whether it's generated by good PR, brand awareness, website optimization / presence, analyst relations, references, case studies, whitepapers, trade shows, advertisements etc...

Re: Is there a way to use social media in lead generation?

Of course you can use social media. It is one of the new ways to generate interest and brand awareness. Apart from directly advertising on them, you can use a viral technique as well. Look up the Tropicana's Inuvik campaign or The Cove Save the Dolphins campaign on Facebook for viral examples.

Re: Is there a way to use social media in lead generation?

AKW, To track the leads from any online source, just send them to a specific landing page on your website related to your social media campaign. Then you can figure out from the web logs where those people came from. A more sophisticated way to do this is to use cookies and have them installed on th...

Re: Switching into market

The way I've seen it happen in the past, is that a technical person gains access and exposure to the marketing side of the business through product management. Re: Requirements Documents -- how much detail?

LoveGolf, Every PM has a different approach to writing MRDs. Over time, you'll improve your requirements writing technique and tune it to your development environment. In my experience, I've found that it is best to strive to minimize the amount of pages in an MRD, while maximizing the context for t...

Re: Working around the "curse of knowledge"?

Sometimes you get into the thick of the trees and you can't see the forest. I've definitely been there, many times. I think it is always important to see things from a product marketing perspective. When I worked in product management I always tried to view the product from the customer's eyes. I wo...
